Two artists, one track
Take for example Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams. They made the song “Get Lucky” together, and given that we can connect them!
Everyone has more partners
But how many connections does Daft Punk have? They have others, such as Nile Rodgers (from Chic), Avicii and the rock band Franz Ferdinand.
A network of featured tracks
If we keep searching for the connections of each artist, we get a network, a.k.a. graph. In this graph we look for the shortest path between two artists using an algorithm like Dijkstra's shortest path.
Ready to try?
Pick two artists and see how they connect.
Where the data comes from
The artists come from Spotify's most listened lists (kworb.net), Wikipedia's best-selling artists and Vagalume's genres. For each of them, every album and single on Spotify is read, and every track with more than one artist links them in the network.
